Will Kate Beckett Finally Let Rick Castle See the Real Her? Andrew Marlowe Dishes

"You know what I thought when I first met you?" Rick Castle asked Kate Beckett in Season 3. "That you were a mystery I was never gonna solve."

Although Castle will certainly have a better understanding of his enigmatic detective muse at the start of Season 5, show creator Andrew Marlowe points out that it'll take more than a glimpse at her tattoo to fully understand what Kate Beckett's all about — or what other secrets she has hidden up her designer sleeves.

"Kate is somebody who plays roles," Marlowe explained in a TVLine interview. "She’s a particular sort of person to her father, and a particular sort of person to Castle, a particular sort of person to Gates, to Montgomery … She’s very guarded in situations, and she chooses what to reveal about herself."

Which begs the question: What is she keeping from Rick? Perhaps that she L-O-V-E's him? Or that she's afraid he'll lose interest and leave?
Marlowe wouldn't spoil the fun, but he did pose some interesting questions about this new situation Beckett finds herself in:

"Now that she’s in this relationship with Castle, is she going to reveal a little bit more? Or is she going to keep her secrets somewhere where she can draw her lines and boundaries?"

Either way, we can rest assured that this season's secrets won't be as dramatic as last season's — and they certainly won't make or break the new couple, who will be enjoying a classic "honeymoon phase" in the first few episodes.

"I think we all have skeletons," Marlowe mused. "Some of us who have been in long-term relationships, there’s probably still stuff that we don’t know about our significant others. I think that there are skeletons in both Rick’s and Kate’s closet."

While that door could remain closed for a while, the door to Beckett's bedroom is wide open — and that's a secret Caskett will enjoy keeping together!
